Dear Colleagues,

I want to thank members for sharing their concerns and questions about academic freedom over the past months with me and other members of the Executive. In response, AASUA has developed a toolkit to inform members about their academic freedom rights, and the measures they should take should they see their rights threatened.

AASUA will always staunchly defend our members’ rights to academic freedom as protected in our Collective Agreement. Universities have endured as places of thought and reason because of the principles of academic freedom; they must continue to do so if they are to uphold their value as spaces of free thought and robust inquiry.

The toolkit will be a continuing resource available on the AASUA website. You can view it here:

We hope you will find this resource helpful both now and in the future.

In solidarity,

Gordon Swaters

AASUA President
