SECOND CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR UNFILLED SEATS ON AASUA COUNCIL IN FALL BY-ELECTIONS
I write with the final “call” to members to stand to fill seats on AASUA Council not filled in the Spring elections.
Further to bylaw requirements, the table in this “call” provides the names of nominations received to date. As you can see from this table, there are still many seats that have no member standing to fill them.
Please consider standing to fill one of these seats.
The time commitment is not great. Except where there is an urgent need for a special meeting of Council, Council meets only once a month, on Thursday afternoons, from 2 to 5 pm. You can consult the provisional schedule of the Council meetings for 2017-18 here.
Service on AASUA Council is a vital contribution to the health of the University. Councillors have the opportunity to initiate action on the part of the Association that helps protect and enhance the collective interests of members. This work is especially important with the change to the comprehensive bargaining regime, which permits the Association to negotiate for improvements to the conditions of employment of the academic staff in new, more powerful ways than the old “Agreement Review Committee” process. The Association is as strong as its members make it.
I look forward to receiving further nominations before nominations close at noon on Friday, 27 October 2017.
Yours for a more democratic, more effective, member-run Association,
Chair, AASUA Nominating Committee
