President Turpin has provided guidance to Deans, Directors and Chairs, and by extension University employees, to protect the non-partisan status of the U. of A. during the election period, and thus be compliant with the Election Act. I have contacted and encouraged President Turpin to put forth a communication to the University community, that clarifies in practical terms what academics and other employees can or cannot do during the election season. I have asked President Turpin to directly address the relationship of Academic Freedom protections and the Election Act. The President has confirmed he will respond.
