It is devastating to hear the news that an airliner has crashed near Tehran, Iran and taken the lives of 176 people, among them a number from Edmonton, including within our University community.
We have learned, according to the media, including this report, that two AASUA members, Professors Pedram Mousavi and Mojgan Daneshmand and their two daughters were killed in the Ukraine Airlines crash. Dr. Mousavi, was a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and an expert in wireless technologies, holding and NSERC – AITF Industrial Research Chair. Dr. Daneshmand was a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a Canada Research Chair in radio frequency micro-systems for communication and sensing. Dr. Mousavi and Dr. Daneshmand were dynamic and valued members of our University community. On behalf of AASUA, I extend our deepest condolences to their students, colleagues, families, and friends.
We encourage our members and others in the University community, who need assistance during this time, to go to Rm 1-386 Donadeo ICE (north of ETLC and directly south of Windsor Car Park) where grief counsellors are available. As well, support is available through University services.
