On behalf of the President, this is a second call inviting nominations for the role of speaker. Members may nominate themselves, another member, or a member of the public.
In accordance with the bylaws of the Association, by October 1st, the Council shall annually elect by secret ballot a speaker to preside impartially over Council meetings and enforce Roberts’ Rules of Order at meetings of Council. The speaker also presides over all general meetings and shall run the elections forum for Officers.
The speaker need not be a member of the Association. As the Association is a member-run organization, Council will give priority to electing a speaker who is a member, and the Association will give the member the necessary support to serve in the role.
The speaker, if a member, will be supported in the role with a course release or equivalent for their service as speaker. Should a nominee be a member of the public they are asked to propose, as part of the nomination process, any fee they would charge, with the fee to be approved by Council in conjunction with the election.
Candidates must submit the nomination form and ‘bio’ supporting their candidacy to the Executive Director no later than August 31st.
The nomination form will require candidates to confirm their readiness and capability to chair meetings of the Association in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order. To support a member who is elected to the role, the Association will pay for a workshop with a registered parliamentarian or provide another form of support suitable to the member.
