Vision

I am seeking election as the Faculty Service Officer (FSO) constituency assembly director to the AASUA executive council for the 2020 - 2021 term. I am looking to build on AASUA experience to further contribute to representing the unique views and perspective of FSO members to the AASUA. I have been on AASUA council since 2016 and have represented the FSO constituency as the FSO member of the Bargaining Planning Committee and Chair of the Research and Scholarly Activity Committee. In all my roles, I have been open and accessible to FSO views and perspective, and provided strong representation to our constituency. I look forward to contributing in a productive and meaningful way, through maintaining active and open lines of communications with FSO members. I look forward to continued contributions as a member of AASUA, providing continuity and experience for both bargaining and representing FSO members.

Bio
I have been a FSO since July 2013, previously holding the position of a TRAS for 5 years after graduating with my PhD from the Department of Chemistry in 2008. Since then I have held increasing responsibilities of academic management, staff development, student training, teaching and applying for and project managing large equipment,infrastructure and operational grants. Currently I am the Director of the nanoFAB (www.nanofab.ualberta.ca) and Elko Engineering Garage (www.garage.ualberta.ca). These responsibilities cross research, teaching and working with undergraduate and graduate students. Within these roles, I interact with all levels of UA administration (RSO, SMS, VPR, F&O, departments and faculties), staff (NASA, TRAS, APO, and Academic) and students (undergraduate and graduate). I also teach at the undergraduate level while providing extracurricular teaching to graduate students.

It is these experiences and responsibilities that enable my perspective on the unique role FSO's play in our academic community, as well as expose me to the diversity of positions and talents required for the UA to be successful. I have seen that the greatest strength of the UA is not the equipment, buildings or research dollars that are highlighted as successes but the people that work tirelessly, often filling unrecognized responsibilities and roles that enable the success of our community. As the Director of the FSO constituency assembly, I look to bring my experiences and the recognition of the influence each member brings to the success of our community, in contributing as a positive voice on your behalf of FSOs.
