Dear colleagues,
As you know, we are currently in bargaining with the Employer for a renewal Collective Agreement.

Above: AASUA's Negotiating Team during a Zoom meeting this Fair Employment Week.
Our Negotiating Team is working hard to ensure timely conversion to permanent, stable employment for educators, researchers, temporary administrative professionals and librarians and:
- To provide benefits such as supplementary benefits (e.g. dental care), and parental leave top-up benefits to those on contract and those who work substantial part-time hours;
- To expand representation on evaluation committees to include a diverse selection of academic staff employment categories; and
- To abolish the two-tier pay system that sees new contract instructors make less than current ones.
Currently, contract instructors are eligible for career status after nine years of service. One of AASUA’s proposals is to shorten this term to 36 months of cumulative service.
We have one more way for you to take action this Fair Employment Week:
Help us give our Negotiating Team leverage by signing our petition to President Bill Flanagan and Board of Governors Chair Kate Chisholm supporting our bargaining team’s demands to #MakeItFair.
Please share the petition widely — with your students, with your colleagues, with your friends, and on social media.

We know that together we can make an impact. By showing that our union and supporters won’t stand for choices that erode our world-class post-secondary system, we can decrease precarious appointments. Working conditions are learning conditions.
Thanks again for all your work. Our campaign’s success wouldn’t be possible without you.
Sincerely,
Gordon Swaters
AASUA President
