Dear colleagues,
AASUA Council has voted to commit continued support to the Campus Food Bank by making an annual donation of $24,000. On Thursday afternoon, Council heard a presentation from the Executive Director of the CFB, Erin O’Neil, who outlined the dire food insecurity too many students experience.
Council was concerned to learn that so many of our students are in critical need. Visits to the CFB have more than doubled since last year, and the volume of demand is only increasing. For what amounts to about $6 per member per year, or 50 cents per member per month, AASUA can make a significant difference in our students’ lives.
Should you wish to make an additional personal donation, you can do so here.
Our university should be a place of learning, not a place of hunger. An unprecedented burden has been placed on our students in recent years. They face both soaring living costs, and the exceptional tuition increases forced on them by the provincial government and university administration. We have a ways to go in ending food insecurity on campus, and we hope this ongoing commitment will act as a significant step forward toward that goal.
Sincerely,
Gordon Swaters
AASUA President
