Dear Members

You may have heard that Concordia University of Edmonton Faculty Association (CUEFA) is now on strike – the first university faculty association in Alberta to be pushed to this point.

They held a kick-off rally today (January 4) at 9:00. I was there with some other AASUA folks to show support.

Going forward, they are going to be holding daily pickets 9-11am and 1-3pm. The main location is 112 Avenue at 73 Street.

If you can, please come support our CUEFA colleagues. Prepare for cold weather and a warm welcome - I was delighted with the reception we received there.

I will be joining them again on Friday afternoon (January 7), and I’ll bring AASUA signs with me to share with any of you who come along.

Let’s show the Concordia administration that the 82 members of CUEFA aren’t alone! Let’s show our own administration what they could be in for if they don’t get real at our own bargaining table!

Dress warmly, wear a mask, and be respectful of the local community when parking. Although we encourage AASUA members to show their solidarity, we are neither encouraging our members to engage in work stoppage nor to neglect their job responsibilities as covered by the collective agreement.

You can visit their website for more details on their issues. Even though Concordia is a small private university and U of A is a large public university, I suspect you’ll find many of the issues they are facing in bargaining are very familiar.

For more information, you can visit the CUE Faculty Association’s website: https://www.cuefa.ca.

Or find them on Twitter: @cuefacultyassoc.
