Dear Colleagues,

This afternoon, the Board of Governors passed a motion this afternoon to ratify the tentative agreement (previously ratified by AASUA’s membership in a vote that ended Oct. 21. The Agreement is now officially approved as the 2024-28 Renewal Collective Agreement between AASUA and the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to AASUA’s Lead Negotiator Cherie Klassen and the entire Negotiating Team. I would also like to thank AASUA members for carefully assessing the agreement we reached and democratically setting our path forward.

Collective bargaining is a process of incremental improvement and our work to protect high-quality teaching and research is always ongoing. While this round of bargaining is settled, we hope to build on all that we have achieved this year to further our mission of advancing working conditions for academic staff, and most importantly, learning conditions for our students, in the future.

In solidarity,

Gordon Swaters
AASUA President
