The Association of Academic Staff University of Alberta (AASUA) is seeking applications for the position of Lead Negotiator on the negotiations team. This call is open to both AASUA members and those outside the Association.

The largest academic staff union in Canada, the AASUA represents the interests of approximately 4,000 members located across five campuses in two cities: Edmonton, and Camrose. 

The AASUA is the exclusive bargaining agent for its members, which include Academic Faculty, Academic Teaching Staff, Administrative and Professional Officers, Faculty Service Officers, Librarians, Trust Research Academic Staff, and Temporary Librarian, Administrative, and Professional Officers. As such, the Association negotiates a collective agreement regarding compensation, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment with the employer. The current collective agreement expires June 30, 2024.

The Lead Negotiator will be involved in bargaining and planning in 2023, with negotiations commencing in January 2024. The successful candidate for Lead Negotiator will be prepared to accept a substantial time commitment during the negotiations period. Release time from university responsibilities will be provided in accordance with AASUA policy.

In the writeup, please include both a biographical statement and a vision statement for service in the role of Lead Negotiator. Should an applicant be a member of the public, they will be asked to propose the fee they would charge for this work.

AASUA Executive will review all applicants. The Lead Negotiator will be appointed by Council upon the recommendation of Executive.
