Negotiations Team - What we do

The AASUA, as the bargaining agent for all members, negotiates a collective agreement regarding compensation, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment with the employer. Council appoints, on the recommendation of Executive, the Lead Negotiator and the members of the Negotiations Team. Council approves the AASUA's bargaining priorities which are recommended by Executive through consultation with the membership.

Executive approves the mandate for the Negotiations Team, and once bargaining is in progress, instructs and receives reports from the Negotiations Team.

The Negotiations Team has the authority under the Labour Relations Code to bargain collectively, and to conclude and sign a collective agreement, which is subject to a ratification vote of the membership.  An information-only general meeting is held before members are asked to vote.

The current collective agreement ended on June 30, 2020. The AASUA served the employer with Notice to commence bargaining on January 15, 2020. In accordance with the Labour Relations Code, the collective agreement is deemed to continue while the parties are negotiating a new collective agreement.
